Sachin Tendulkar in 2011 World Cup India Team Victory

Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar has over 29000 runs to his credit in international cricket but the maestro is still not done with it and says that winning the 2011 World Cup is what he hopes to achieve.

In an interview with the Wisden Cricketer, Tendulkar said:

“I am not pleased yet with what I have done. Sunil Gavaskar has told me that I have to get to 15,000 runs. He said he would be angry with me and would come and catch me if I didn`t. I admire him so much and to score that many would be a terrific achievement, but that is not the only aim.”

Sachin, who has had to deal with a spate of injuries in the recent past also said how the injuries had led to slight modifications in his game. (more…)

Sri Lanka Vs West Indies T20 Semi Final

Kumar Sangakkara’s side posted 158-5 from their 20 overs, and New Zealand’s run chase slowly petered out after a fast start.

The Black Caps were bowled out for 110 in the 17th over despite looking to be on course after a powerful performance in the six-over powerplay at the start of their innings.

Sri Lanka spinner Ajantha Mendis was named man-of-the-match after another stunning spell, finishing with figures of 3-9 off his three overs.

It was a heartbreaking story for England. They tried hard, but could not move into the semifinals. In a rain-interrupted match, West Indies beat England by 5 wickets (D/L method) to enter the semifinals.

Pakistan Vs South Africa T20 Semi Final Match 2009

Pakistan captain Younus Khan has said his side would love to win the World Twenty20 as a tribute to their former coach Bob Woolmer.

The ex-England batsman died during the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, hours after Pakistan’s shock loss to Ireland.

However, a 39-run victory over the same opponents at the Oval on Monday saw Pakistan into the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 where they will play South Africa at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

The South Africans have showed their all-round prowess during an unbeaten run in the tournament, including emphatic wins in all three Super Eight games against the West Indies, England and defending champions India.

The latest success came at Trent Bridge on Tuesday when the Proteas fought back after being restricted to a modest 130-5 on a slow wicket to keep off-colour India down to 118-8. (more…)

New Zealand v Sri Lanka, ICC World Twenty20 2009

Tue June 16, 1.30pm, Trent Bridge, Nottingham

It’s quite simple – the winner goes into the semi-finals and the loser heads home. A second-round exit would be slightly unfair on the undefeated Sri Lanka, but they can avoid the trapdoor with another committed performance when they face New Zealand, who have a much healthier net run-rate despite a win and a loss in the Super Eights.

New Zealand Squad :

1 Brendon McCullum, 2 Aaron Redmond, 3 Martin Guptill, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Scott Styris, 6 Jacob Oram, 7 Peter McGlashan (wk), 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Daniel Vettori (capt), 10 Kyle Mills, 11 Ian Butler.

SriLanka Squad:

1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Sanath Jayasuriya, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt, wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Chamara Silva, 6 Jehan Mubarak, 7 Angelo Mathews, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Muttiah Muralitharan, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Ajantha Mendis.

Pakistan vs Ireland twenty20 worldcup 2009 Highlights

Pakistan vs Ireland – How Pakistan Lose wickets

Scoreline: Pakistan 159/5 Kamran Akmal 57 (51), Shahid Afridi 24 (13) – Boyd Rankin 4-11-0
Ireland 120/9 Porterfield 40 (36) – Ajmal 4-19-4, Umar Gul 4-19-2, Aamer 4-19-1

The most interesting aspect of the Pakistan batting in the early part was the respect they gave the Irish bowling, without going bananas as they often can do. Afridi who’d played a responsible knock in the game vs NZ, looked to be getting back into some sort of batting form if not striking form. And that’s super for viewers considering Yuvraj’s exit yesterday. Think Hasan at the top and Razzaq to come is making the difference as Afridi no longer sees himself as the lone-hitter around and feels he can afford to work his way into form.

Ireland like against SL came up against a spin attack and pacers, their relative inexperience couldn’t really cope with. End of the Irish this year, but there are some players there, worth looking forward to whenever they next play international cricket. Until then, will miss their anthem played on a cricket field.

The big win by Pakistan today means their presence in the semis is no longer dependent on SL vs NZ tomorrow cos their NRR is better than SL now.
