Pakistan Champions Trophy Two Different Preparatory Camp

team2The Pakistan team management today decided to split the Champions Trophy preparatory camp into two parts with coach Intikhab Alam laying stress on having more flexibility in the team.

Initially it was announced that the players would attend a 10-day conditioning camp in Lahore, for which the newly appointed batting consultant Javed Miandad had also prepared special grassy pitches for the batsmen in Lahore.

But today, Intikhab said the players would first attend a conditioning camp in Lahore from September 1 to 6 in which they will only have physical training and counseling sessions with psychologist Maqbool Babri, who also worked with them before the Twenty20 World Cup in England.

The second part of the preparations would be a training camp in Karachi from September 12 to 16 in which the players will work with Miandad and other specialist coaches nominated by the Pakistan Cricket Board. (more…)

Pak under tremendous pressure to do well in Champions Trophy: Afridi

AfridiNewly appointed Pakistan vice captain Shahid Afridi has said that being the ICC Twenty20 World Cup champions, Pakistan will be under tremendous pressure in the Champions Trophy.

Expressing full confidence in his team, Afridi said the T20 World Cup triumph proves that Pakistan has the ability to win mega tournaments.

“Carrying the tag of T20 World Cup winners into Champions Trophy means there are automatically going to be a lot of expectations from us to do well. The way we won T20 World Cup means we have the ability to win the Champions Trophy, but the only thing is we have to develop mindset to handle pressure as well,” Afridi was quoted as saying.

Afridi, who has recently been appointed captain Younis Khan’s deputy replacing Misbah-ul-Haq, rejected reports of a rift in the team, saying his prime objective would be to perform both with the bat and ball. (more…)

Miandad orders green top at Gaddafi Stadium for Champions Trophy

Javed Miandad 1.previewPakistan cricket batting advisor and former captain Javed Miandad has asked pitch curators to prepare a green and pacy surface at the Gaddafi Stadium to prepare batsmen for the bouncy South African wickets.

Miandad has ordered a new pitch with a tinge of green grass covering on it in order to give batsmen the feel of South African conditions where the ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to commence from September 22.

“The idea is to get the batsmen to play on surfaces similar to those in South Africa. Cricket is all in the mind and if a player is mentally focused, he can succeed anywhere,” Miandad said.

With the 10-day national conditioning camp for the Champions Trophy beginning from Tuesday (September 1), Miandad expressed hope that batsmen would be able to acclimatize well in South African conditions.

“The playing conditions and pitches at the Wanderers and Centurion grounds are conducive to pace bowling and our batsmen need to be prepared to cope with the conditions there,” Miandad was quoted as saying. (more…)

Surmounting all these obstacles, he led Pakistan to victory in the final. In a candid interview he spoke about his achievement as well as his team’s performance.

Pakistan Vs South Africa T20 Semi Final Match 2009

Pakistan captain Younus Khan has said his side would love to win the World Twenty20 as a tribute to their former coach Bob Woolmer.

The ex-England batsman died during the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, hours after Pakistan’s shock loss to Ireland.

However, a 39-run victory over the same opponents at the Oval on Monday saw Pakistan into the semi-finals of the World Twenty20 where they will play South Africa at Trent Bridge on Thursday.

The South Africans have showed their all-round prowess during an unbeaten run in the tournament, including emphatic wins in all three Super Eight games against the West Indies, England and defending champions India.

The latest success came at Trent Bridge on Tuesday when the Proteas fought back after being restricted to a modest 130-5 on a slow wicket to keep off-colour India down to 118-8. (more…)
