Australia 2-1 lead against New Zealand

Australia Vs New Zealand

Australia won the match with the help of Brad Haddin. Before the match Brad stated that ‘it is the most important game of the series’. Brand’s 110 was highest ODI score. Ricky Ponting analyzes the pitch with costars and resolved that problem at Seddon Park.

Ponting combined with Haddin 151- run partnership and ponting made 69 runs. Ponting ODI captaincy career for a remarkable 20 victories. His bowlers gave 245 target to the New Zealand. Haddin loves batting against New Zealand. His averages was 52.06 against New zealand.

In New zealand bowlers, Mason gave 68 runs of his ten overs. When Haddin was on 8, Shane Bond missed the catch. Haddin did a good work with seven fours and five sixes in Shane Bond’s bowling. New Zealand five down in the 30th over. Styris continued his consistent series with 41 and combined with Gareth Hopkins for a 67-run.

Johnson did take three wickets as well and the final three New Zealanders fell for five runs and they were bowled out with 22 deliveries still available.

Bond returns to revive struggling New Zealand

30bondNew Zealand’s pace spearhead Shane Bond makes a comeback to official cricket after two years when he plays in a Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Bond, 34, regarded as the best New Zealand fast bowler since Richard Hadlee, was delighted to be playing again for his country after snapping links with the unauthorised Indian Cricket League (ICL).

“It’s been a long time coming and it’s something I never thought would happen again,” he said. “It feels like I am starting all over again.”

Bond, who last played for New Zealand in November 2007, hoped he could meet the expectations from team-mates and fans alike on his highly-anticipated return.

“I think I set myself pretty high standards and it is up to me to meet those,” he said. “I always strive to be the best bowler in the world, nothing’s changed there.”

Bond’s fiery pace fetched him 79 wickets in 17 Tests, 125 from 67 one-day internationals and 12 in nine Twenty20 matches till he was banished for his ICL connections.

He was not picked for the preceding Test series which Sri Lanka swept 2-0, and warmed up instead by playing for New Zealand’s ‘A’ team in India last month.

Black Caps captain Daniel Vettori warned against expecting the premier fast bowler to deliver immediate results. (more…)

New Zealand bowled out for 234

vettoriThree wickets each by Mutthaih Muralithara and Rangana Herath helped Sri Lanka bowl New Zealand out for just 234 runs in the first innings of the second Test on Friday.

Resuming Day 3 at 159/5, New Zealand succumbed to the pressure of the spin duo and started losing wickets early-on.

Ross Tylor, who was unbeaten on 70 at stumps of day 2, could only add 11 more runs to his kitty before giving a simple catch to the first slip off Herath.

Oram (24) and Vettori (23) tried their best to tackle the spinners but they too did not last long.

Once they got out, Kiwis lost the remaining batsmen in a huff and were ultimately skittled out for a paltry 234.

Earlier in the match, riding on a fine century by Thilan Samaraweera, Sri Lanka had scored 416 in their first innings.

Strong Sri Lankan bowling worries Vettori

Daniel Vettori has said he’s aware it is not only Sri Lanka’s spinners that his side will have to be wary of, but also the quick bowlers who were instrumental in the Test series victory over Pakistan.

“Spin is going to play an important part but I think from watching the Pakistan series, the seam bowlers have played an important role,” Vettori told reporters after arriving in Sri Lanka for a six-week tour. “Our ability to counter the Sri Lankan spin bowlers is going to be a huge part of the game. However it will be ignorant for us not to acknowledge how well the Sri Lankan team has bowled.” (more…)

New Zealand v Sri Lanka, ICC World Twenty20 2009

Tue June 16, 1.30pm, Trent Bridge, Nottingham

It’s quite simple – the winner goes into the semi-finals and the loser heads home. A second-round exit would be slightly unfair on the undefeated Sri Lanka, but they can avoid the trapdoor with another committed performance when they face New Zealand, who have a much healthier net run-rate despite a win and a loss in the Super Eights.

New Zealand Squad :

1 Brendon McCullum, 2 Aaron Redmond, 3 Martin Guptill, 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Scott Styris, 6 Jacob Oram, 7 Peter McGlashan (wk), 8 Nathan McCullum, 9 Daniel Vettori (capt), 10 Kyle Mills, 11 Ian Butler.

SriLanka Squad:

1 Tillakaratne Dilshan, 2 Sanath Jayasuriya, 3 Kumar Sangakkara (capt, wk), 4 Mahela Jayawardene, 5 Chamara Silva, 6 Jehan Mubarak, 7 Angelo Mathews, 8 Nuwan Kulasekara, 9 Muttiah Muralitharan, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Ajantha Mendis.
