Having mowed down India with a career-best seven-wicket haul in the first Test, South African speedster Dale Steyn said the wickets of Sachin Tendulkar and Murali Vijay gave him the most satisfaction because of the planning that went behind their dismissals.

“That one (Tendulkar’s wicket) and Vijay just before him (were special),” said the 26-year-old pacer at the end of third day’s play.

“I worked him (Vijay) out quite nicely with two balls that went away and then bringing one back which he left. That kind of stuff just doesn’t happen out in the middle. We’ve really planned it, that kind of stuff,” explained the pacer. (more…)

In the most recent incident, Afridi was caught by TV cameras apparently biting the ball on a couple of occasions during the last ODI against Australia. This was reported by the TV umpire to the on-field umpires who, after a chat with Afridi, changed the ball. At a hearing with the match referee Ranjan Madugalle immediately after the game, Afridi pleaded guilty to the charge, apologised and regretted his action but was banned for two Twenty20 internationals. Shahid Afridi is not the only one who thinks that all teams tamper with the ball as Imran Khan and Rameez Raja feel the same.

Afridi, who has been banned for two Twenty20 matches for tampering with the ball in a one-dayer against Australia in Perth, has claimed that all teams try such tactics to exploit the conditions to their advantage.

English county side Middlesex have confirmed they are in talks to sign Yuvraj Singh as their second overseas player for this year’s Twenty20 Cup.

Middlesex were originally talking to Sachin Tendulkar, who turned down their offer to prolong his international career.

Yuvraj could further boost the batting strength of the county in the T20 format, after Adam Gilchrist confirmed in November.

A major stumbling block to negotiations with Yuvraj could be India’s unconfirmed international schedule. (more…)
