The IPL opener, scheduled to be played in Hyderabad has now been shifted to Mumbai due to political tension in the southern Indian city.
Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, was supposed to host the first match of IPL between the Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders but the Telengana issue has given rise to growing security concerns.
The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is one of the better cricket grounds in the country and was also host to a semi-final and the final of the Airtel Champions League Twenty20.
It is ironical that the FerozShah Kotla in Delhi, which came under the scanner after last year’s ODI between India and Sri Lanka, will still hosts its share of IPL matches despite a ban on international cricket matches for the year while Hyderabad has to lose out because of issues firmly beyond control of cricketing contours.
