The former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi in the auction held for the inaugural Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament on Thursday 19th January, 2011 in Dhaka.
The 31-year-old Shahid Afridi, who was sold out to the Dhaka franchise for USD 700,000, after some intense auction involving five of the six franchises inaugural Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament, which will begin from February 10th to 28th in Dhaka. Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi is available for the for the final two days of the opening Bangladesh Premier League Twenty20 tournament campaign, where he has been playing for his national team against England in the United Arab Emirates.
Bangladesh Premier League Tournament organizers said money will be given to the auctioned players proportionately, while West Indies dangerous opening batsmen Chris Gayle is going to take part in the inaugural Twenty20 tournament from 14th February. Chris Gayle went for USD 551,000 with Barisal and his teammate Marlon Samuels and Kieron Pollard also sold out for USD 360,000 and USD 300,000 to Rajshahi and Dhaka respectively.
Ireland’s wicketkeeper-batsman Niall O’Brien was the most valuable player from the associate nations with Khulna, where he sold-out for USD 80,000. The Bangladesh cricketers Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mohammad Ashraful, Shahriar Nafees and Alok Kapali were picked out as icon players for six franchises teams.
