Sri Lanka bowled out for the lowest ODI total ever 43 all-out against South Africa in the first one day international match at Boland Bank Park in Paarl on 11th January.
Sri Lanka has slid down to its most horrible score in ODIs history and holds the record of setting a new world lowest record at 33 for 8 wickets, while ninth-wicket pair of Kosala Kulasekara and Nuwan Kulasekara dragged the tourists to surpass the 35 runs Zimbabwe’s lowest score against Sri Lankans in 2004. South African pace bowler Morne Morkel and Lonwabo Tsotsobe have break the Sri Lankan top order with a deadly swing and bounce Boland Bank Park in Paarl on Wednesday. Sri Lanka’s score was the fourth most miserable in ODI history and 12 runs short of their previous lowest total of 55 in 28.3 overs against West Indies on 3rd December in 1986 in Sharjah.
South Africa, who clinched victory by the third biggest margin by runs ever in ODI history, after making 201 for 8 wickets, where AB de Villiers has begun his career as s South Africa’s new ODI captain. South Africa opening batsman Hashim Amla score 112 runs and all rounder Jacques Kallis made 72, where both the players stand for 144 crucial run partnerships for the second wicket in the first ODI match. AB de Villiers said it’s an amazing start for him as a new captain for his team and was a really outstanding team performance.
Sri Lanka’s 43 runs was the fourth lowest total followed by Zimbabwe has ended for couple of times with 35 & 38 and Canada 36 recorded lower totals in ODI history. South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has taken 4 for 10 runs, while left-armer Tsotsobe picked 3 for 19, as Sri Lanka slouched to 13 for 6 wickets in 20.1 overs. Kosala Kulasekara was the top score for the team with 19 runs to make double figures, while Lasith Malinga bagged 5 for 53 runs.
Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan said it’s unfortunate to all-out for 43 runs in the first ODI match at Boland Bank Park and looking forward to show best performance in the remaining ODI series against South Africa. South African will face Sri Lanka in the second ODI match at Buffalo Park in East London on Saturday 14th January.
