India has lost the first test of the four-test series against Australia played at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The pacers of Australia wrecked India who lost by 122 runs.
The pacers of Australia rattled the top order batsmen of India, which forced them to suffer a defeat against Australia with 122 runs, after chasing 292 runs in the second innings to win the opening Boxing Day test at MCG. Australia imposed the target with 292 runs for India, after they were rolled out for 240 in the second innings. Umesh Yadav was the Indian bowlers, who scalped four wickets for 70 runs off 20 overs, with three quick wickets in the early stage of the second innings.
However, the Oz veterans Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey took the responsibility of repairing the innings on their shoulders. They both together added 115 runs for the fifth wicket, after Australia lost 4 wickets for just 27 runs on board. Hussey with the assistance of James Pattinson (37 off 81 balls) guided his team to safe zone, before he got out for 89 runs off 151 balls with 9 fours, after he was caught by Dhoni of Zaheer Khan who took 3 wickets in total for 53 runs from 20 overs.
Sehwag and Gambhir started the second innings for India, before Sehwag got out for 7 runs off 12 balls with one four. Gambhir was struggling to strike the ball and finally got out on 13 runs off 46 balls with one four. Since then, the Indian batsmen started tumbling, before India was bowled out for just 169 runs from 47.5 overs and losing the opening test with 122 runs. James Pattinson was named the ‘Man of the Match’ for his match winning performance with both bat and the ball, after he scored 55 crucial runs from two innings and picked 6/108. The second test will be played at Sydney from January 3, 2012.
