Mark Waugh former Australian batsman expressed sorry for Usman Khawaja, who has been axed from the test squad, for the upcoming four-test series against India. He is also hoping that, the decision to pick out of form Ponting works in the opening Test starting on Boxing Day December 26, 2011.
The 25-year-old left-handed batsman scored 7 and 23 in the final Test against New Zealand, which took his test average to 29.22 from his six test matches and as a result he faced the axe on him from the squad for the opening Test against India. The 46-year-old elegant stroke player Waugh said that, he feels bit sorry for Khawaja, as he actually seemed pretty good, barring the last Test.
The twin brother of Steven Waugh went on saying that, he looked like a very capable player, before the last Test against Kiwis and though he is a good player. Khawaja did not take the opportunity by the scruff of the neck and so he feels sorry for him. However, Waugh insisted that, one should make the most of their opportunities, which Khawaja has not done. Mark also insisted that, there is no doubt that, Usman has a great future and looked forward that, he would be back bigger and pretty better soon.
About Ponting and Hussey Mark said that, they both are great players and their records are superb. However, they need runs in the next couple of Test matches, which is for sure, as they have been well short of the mark by their high standards. He also insisted that, both of them have got experience and quality, which have to be transformed into runs or else they would be looking over their shoulders.
