Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander strike early for South Africa and left Sri Lanka struggling in the beginning of their first test at Centurion. The Proteas won the toss and put Sri Lanka to bat, after electing to bowl first.
The South Africa Captain Graeme Smith won the toss in the first test against Sri Lanka and elected to bowl first at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The decision to bowl first proved to be fruitful, after the Proteas managed to pick two early wickets with just 12 runs on the scoreboard. Sri Lanka lost one of their openers Tilakaratne Dilshan who is also the Captain of Sri Lanka. He was out for 6 runs off 7 balls with one four, before he was caught by Vernon Philander off Steyn.
Dilshan played a horror shot off Steyn, after it was bowled full and on the length on and around middle stump. He was looking to loft it over the infield, who ends up connecting it on the high of his blade and was caught by Philander at mid-wicket. Kumara Sangakkara followed Dilshan, just after scoring 1 run of 3 balls. He was caught at 2nd slip by Jacques Kallis off Philander. It was bowled around leg stump. Which Sangakkara got back and tried to push it, but the ball managed to take the outside edge and was moving to the right side of Kallis.
As per the current update, Sri Lanka scored 46 runs for the loss of 2 wickets at the end of 19 overs. Mahela Jayawardene is playing on 18 runs off 52 balls with one boundary, while another opener Tharanga Paranavitana is batting on 20 off 57 balls with two fours. Stay tuned for the further scores and updates of the first test between South Africa and Sri Lanka.
