R Ashwin has become the third Indian to take a five-wicket haul and score a century in tests, after he score his maiden test century against West Indies in the third and finals test of the series. He also becomes 13th Indian batsman to score a century at No.8 position.
The Indian right-arm off-spinner R Ashwin picked five wickets for 156 runs in the first innings against West Indies in the third and final test of the ongoing series at Wankhade Stadium in Mumbai. West Indies has scored a massive 590 runs in its first innings, while India were all-out for 482 runs. Ashwin scored his maiden test century on the fourth day of the test, after he scored 103 of 118 balls, including 15 boundaries and 2 sixes.
The 25-year-old cricketer from Chennai joined the list of two Indians who have picked five wickets and a century. Vinoo Mankad scored 184 runs and picked 5 for 196 against England at Lords in the year 1952, while Polly Umrigar scored 172 not out and scalped 5 for 107 against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1962. He is now also the 13th batsman to score a ton at No.8, after MS Dhoni the Indian Captain has scored 144 against West Indies in the second Test at the Eden Gardens.
The list of other Indian batsmen includes the stars like Kapil Dev, Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh and joined the club of spin bowlers with Kumble, Harbhajan who have achieved the feat. The hundred scored by Ashwin turned out to be crucial knock, which helped India to score 482 runs in its first innings.
