Shahid Afridi the former captain of Pakistan appeared to be making his international comeback, after he has decided to come out of his self-imposed exile from cricket. He has been reportedly assured by some political figures, who have supported his comeback that, he would be in the national team of Pakistan for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, if he takes back his retirement statement.
The 31-year-old all-rounder has announced his retirement from the international cricket of all the formats, in May as a protest against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), as the board has decided to remove him from the captaincy. Also, he was made to pay the fine of Rs. 4.5million by the disciplinary committee of the board, for allegedly breaching the code of conduct. However, he was allowed to play in foreign leagues.
The right-hand hitter is a very popular personality among the masses of Pakistan and has announced that, he is available for national selection again, after Zaka Ashraf has been appointed as the new head of PCB in place of Ijaz Butt by the President Asif Zardari. Afridi also made it clear that, he is ready to play for Pakistan again, since the team management has been changed. As per the reports, Afridi is very certain to make his international comeback, to the one-day side against Sri Lanka, as it was a part of work he did with the political and other influential personalities that were involved in his comeback.
Muhammad Illyas, the acting chief selector said that, the selectors would consider Afridi for national selection, once he gets clearance from the board to be recognized for the selection. Also, Afridi has been assured that, he would be a part of national one-day side, as a new Chairman is now leading the cricket board of Pakistan.
