Australian Chairman of selectors, Andrew Hilditch has lately named Patrick Cummins on the National Test squad, which is to face the South African hosts in the impending Two-match Test series, kicking-off on Nov. 9, 2011 in Cape Town.
Australia’s soon to retire Chairman, Andrew Hilditch told: “Patrick Cummins has chosen ahead of James Pattinson for this tour. He is a very exciting prospect and at just eighteen-years of age is already showing the ability to have a major impact at international level”.
“Patrick would have most expected been on the tour of Sri Lanka, if not for injury at the end of last season. Now he is back fit and bowling well, we saw this as the right time to fetch him into the Test squad for this important series,” Patrick added.
During the preceding two-match Twenty20 series over the Proteas, Cummins marked a stellar international appearance at the opening session on October 13, bagging three wickets – which controlled the hosts to heap up a handy chase for his team worth 146 runs.
As for Sunday’s second match, where the Aussie tourists were handed a three wickets rout by the hosts, Cummins secured another couple of wickets, giving away 26 runs-off 4 over’s. The fast performance will be now retaining his ground for Australia’s remaining tour of South Africa, which is still to aspect Three-One Day International matches, followed by Two-Test series.
On the other hand, James Pattinson now has a chance to go back to the Australian domestic competition, Sheffield Shield, and prove his real bronze to spot a worthy comeback on the national roster. Pattinson has served a limited spell with Australia side, which includes 2 ODIs with 3 wickets, and 2 T20s.
