The England Cricket Board has announced the squad for the upcoming four-week tour of India, to play five One-Day internationals and an international T20 match against India. The squad comprised of 17 players, including the ODIs and T20 matches. Stuart Meaker, the pacer of Surrey has been picked for the tour.
Meaker was in Fast Bowling Programme, since last two winters, before his debut against Sri Lanka A, this summer. Besides him, Kevin Petersen, Scott Borthwick of Durham and all-rounder Chris Woakes of Warwickshire are the three players, who have been included in the England squad. Petersen is making his comeback to the side, after he missed the ODI series against India in England. However, James Anderson has been rested for the tour.
Jos Buttler of Somerset and Alex Hales of Nottinghamshire will also join the England squad for the only T20 match against India, which will be played on October 29, 2011, after the ODI series. Geoff Miller, the England National selector said that, the selected England squad comprises the exciting balance of experienced and talented young players, who can play the high quality limited overs cricket against India. He added that, few injuries and the decision of dropping James Anderson, give the opportunity for the other talented players, to continue and develop themselves as international cricketers.
The captain of England T20 team, Stuart Broad is currently undergoing the rehabilitation for a shoulder injury. He would be joining the side, if he manages to complete his rehab programme or Graeme Swann will lead the T20 side again, in case Broad is not available to join the team.
