West Indies all-rounder, Chris Gayle, revealed that he still wishes to play for his nation, despite being repeatedly ignored by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) following the last ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
During the interview, Gayle stated, “I’m very disappointed not to be involved with West Indies cricket. Based on the last couple of years, my service has been wonderful. I still think I have a lot to offer, especially at this point in time. After the IPL, I felt on the top of my game.”
Gayle’s dispute with the WICB began after the all-rounder opted to represent the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last Indian Premier League (IPL) rather than opting to serve his national team, which was scheduled to play Pakistan in a home series soon after the World Cup.
As a result, the Board axed Gayle from the national squad and remained steadfast on the decision as the Jamaican player was further excluded from the Caribbean side’s later series against the Indian tourists.
The dispute still stands irresolute, despite Gayle’s initiative that brought in the Caribbean state heads that were requested by the all-rounder to look into the matter.
As for now, since Gayle’s exclusion from the national ranks, the player has only been playing T20 cricket and is currently engaged with the Royal Challengers in the proceeding mega-event, Champions League T20.
