Once again! Troy Cooley found himself undertaking Australian cricket’s challenge after being elected short-term head coach for the upcoming tour of South Africa.
Cooley remains hopeful, he will get Mitchell Johnson up and running and just like he did as Australia’s bowling coach in 2009 year. That year’s tour to South Africa remains Johnson’s greatest victory, leading with bat and ball to shine Australia’s upset 2-1 Test series win.
And now Australia will be keeping their fingers crossed Johnson again rediscovers his motto on Cooley’s watch, and their recent Test series victory in Sri Lanka by Johnson with six wickets. But, Interim coach believed a tour to South Africa’s fast and bouncy hits may be just what Johnson needs.
Cooley was known for his highly technical ideas in his five-year spell, as Australia’s bowling coach which finished at this year’s World Cup and the approach believed to have sometimes left Johnson’s top spinning. He is confident that, he can work with current bowling adviser Craig McDermott and help Johnson return.
Mitchell Johnson is in danger of being go down, after even being upstaged by 120km/h rookie Trent Copeland in Sri Lanka. Peter Siddle is his leading threat after a lion-hearted third Test show in Colombo.
Troy Cooley was eager to talk to their Twenty20 wicketkeeper stocks with Tim Paine and Brad Haddin unavailable. Haddin has made a career decision and we have to stand by that at this point in time,” Cooley told. That is something we will discuss about once we meet around the selectors table.
As care-taker coach, Troy Cooley will be a performing national selector. The T20 and ODI tour squads will be announced this week.
