Former Indian legend and the youngest captain of India, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi died in Delhi fighting with his lung disease at a age of 70. Pataudi was the father of the Indian Bollywood Actor, Saif Ali Khan
The player will be long remembered as one of the greatest Captains to ever have led the Indian side, and was known for his traditional tactics and the person to instil a winning attitude in Men in Blue.
In total he played 46 Tests for his country, scoring 2793 runs at an average of 34.91, with an unbeaten knock of 203.
The appointed captain, Nari Contractor, suffered a severe head injury after being hit by the pace bowler, Charlie Griffith, and Pataudi was called up. At 21 he was then the youngest Test captain.
He was in charge for 40 of his 46 Tests, winning nine of them, and led India to her first series win overseas, against New Zealand at Dunedin in 1968.
Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi was born in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in 1941, he was the son of the Nawab of Pataudi, who had played for England during the bodyline tour of 1932-33 and captained India on its tour of England in 1946. Pataudi got married in 1969 to the an Indian film actress, Sharmila Tagore, Two of their three children are already a leading Bollywood starts with Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan.
