Clive Lloyd announces ICC’s ODI Squad of the Year

The International Cricket Council’s (ICC’s) One Day International (ODI) squad of the year has been declared in London, England on September 12, 2011.Four Indian players have been named in the squad with MS Dhoni named as the captain of the squad. The players selected are: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Graeme Swann, Umar Gul, Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers, Yuvraj Singh, Shane Watson, Dale Steyn and Zaheer Khan.

Apart from these players, Sri Lanka’s pace-bowler Lasith Malinga has been name as the 12th man in the squad. The addition of four Indian players in the team will bring some joy to the disappointed followers of the squad. The Men in Blue have struggled to make an impression on the British ground, losing the Test series, ODI and the Twenty20 series against England squad.

However, the side has one more match remaining in the series. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan squad has also been struggling to execute in their home series over Australia. The side handled to win the Twenty20 series, but lost the ODI series to the Kangaroos.The Chairman of the ICC Awards selection panel Clive Lloyd admitted that, this has been an outstanding season for 50-over cricket. He thinks everyone saw in the ICC – Cricket World Cup how thrilling this format can be.

While the players chosen in the One Day International squad have performed extremely well throughout the season, one player would have been disappointed to miss out.ICC’s ODI Squad: MS Dhoni (Captain), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Virender Sehwag, Graeme Swann, Umar Gul, Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers, Yuvraj Singh, Shane Watson, Dale Steyn and Zaheer Khan.
