The World Cup 2011 Champions, India have an opportunity to improve their ODI rankings, by beating England with 4-1 and better in the upcoming ODI series.
India has lost its number one spot to England, after they have been whitewashed in the test series and are preparing to register their first tour win in England against them, which made them the world’s number one test team, for the first time in 32 years of their cricketing history. They also lost the lone T20 game against England.
However, India could improve its ODI rankings and rise to the second place, ahead of South Africa, if they manage to beat England with 4-1 or better. But, they could not dislocate the number one ODI team, Australia from their place, even if India clean sweeps the ODI series against England, starting on Saturday, September 3, 2011. Currently, India is in third place with 117 points, in ICC ODI rankings, while England is in fifth place with 107 rating points.
If England manages to clean sweep the ODI series, they will gain 9 rating points and India will lose 8 rating points, which means, England will join South Africa with 116 points in second place, but they will be ahead of South Africa, considering the decimals of the rating points, while India will drop to the fifth place with 109 points. If India wins the series with 4-1, they will get 120 rating points and England will drop to 104 points.
If India wins the series with 5-0, they will get 122 rating points and see themselves, behind Australia with eight points less and England will be left on 101 points, just one point ahead of Pakistan. If India seals the series with 3-2, they will remain on 117 points, but will drop behind South Africa in fourth place, if England wins the series with 3-2, as India will be on 114 and England rise to 110 rating points.
