The Indian skipper, MS Dhoni has been praised and awarded with an honorary doctorate by Montfort University, after the end of a T20 match against Leicestershire.
The captain of World Cup 2011 winning team, MS Dhoni has reached several milestones as a skipper of team India, in his cricketing career. His first achievement as a captain of team India was, T20 World Cup in the year 2007 and also clinched the CB tri-series in 2007-2008, which was played in Australia. But, his captaincy glory has also helped India, in winning the ICC World Cup 2011, after 28 long years.
Besides winning the team championships, Dhoni also own the individual records, as the most number of catches in an innings and the longest unbeaten run as a captain. He also owns the record, for scoring a fastest century by an Indian wicket keeper-batsman. He was also named as the ICC one-day international player of the year. He was discovered by the BCCI in a small town talent-spotting initiative in India, while playing in Jamshedpur in the year 2003. In the same year, he was picked to play for India A squad and was later selected for the one-day international tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Dhoni said that, he is proud, amazed and honored to receive the award and sees the award as an honor, not only for him, but also as the captain of the Indian cricket team and for the whole team. Professor Dominic Shellard, the Vice-Chancellor of De Montfort University said that, the university is proud to join with their key partner, Leicestershire County Cricket Club, who recognized the significant achievements of Dhoni. The honorary doctorate has been awarded to Dhoni, in the presence of staff and the students of the University.
