Australia’s has won the ODIs series in Sri Lanka and drives for the Test series, as they eye the long climb back up the world rankings.
Ryan Harris, one of seven Test squad players not concerned in the ODI campaign, says the 3-2 series victory has provided a real lift ahead of the three-Test series starting next week. Rocked by last summer’s home Ashes overcome, once leading Australia is now a lowly No.5 position in the Test rankings.
Australia can start the long drag back to the top under new captain Michael Clarke, with the first Test series in Galle starting on Wednesday. Harris was aspiring to show selectors, he is fully improved from a broken ankle injury suffered in last summer’s Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, when he bowled in this week’s three-day tour game over a Sri Lanka Board XI in Colombo.
The 31-year-old was hoping for some long spells before the first Test series in Sri Lanka and while Ryan is so far to play a match under Clarke, he is excited about taking to the playing field under the New South Welshman’s management.
Harris told reporters that – I watched him on the TV and I have watched the way, he worked here for the last two matches. He was never going to be a concern in taking over the captaincy. He is a good boss, very strong role and he is got a very good cricket skills.
Obviously, Michael is spent a lot of time under Ricky Ponting and learnt off Ricky, he is captained all through his junior cricket and for NSW. He is been very good, I had a couple of talks with him and he is very helpful of me and it is exciting, I am looking forward to playing under him.
