Rahul Dravid – The veteran Indian batsman announced retirement from Indian squad for the One-Day and Twenty20 cricket after the five ODI series and one-off T20 International against England tour.
Later in the day, ‘The Wall’ declares breaking news that the upcoming series will be the last time he plays for India team after he was named in the squads for both the shorter formats of the match.
Rahul Dravid was surprisingly recalled to the Indian squad’s limited-over’s for the five-match One-Day International series after being out of the side for last two years, said in a statement in Northampton that he was surprised to be selected for the England series as he has not selected for two years.
The 38-year-old told: He was honored and privileged to be selected in the Indian one-day team, after India’s warm-up game over Northamptonshire in which he did not play.
Since, he had not been picked for ODI cricket for the last two years, he was obviously a little surprised and to be honest, because he had not been picked,” he said in the statement. He now wants to concentrate on Tests career in the future though he had not informed about it to the BCCI before his selection.
Dravid has been the only batsman to shine over the English pace in the first two Tests, which saw embarrassing defeats for the visitors. He scored hundreds in both Tests matches at Trent Bridge and the Lord’s stadium.
Overall, Rahul Dravid has so far scored 10,765 runs in 339 One-Day International at an average of 39.43, with Twelve-centuries and 82 fifties.
