The Indian Captain, Mahender Singh Dhoni has been nominated for the second edition of ICC’s LG People’s Choice Awards.
The Captain and wicketkeeper of India, M S Dhoni has been the one among the five cricketers, who have been nominated for ICC’s People’s Choice Awards. The Awards were conducted for the first time in the year 2010, where the cricket fans were given the opportunity to vote for their favorite stars across the globe.
Besides M S Dhoni, Hashim Amla of South African batsman, opener Chris Gayle of West Indies, Kumar Sangakkara, the former Captain of Sri Lanka and No.3 batsman of England, Jonathan Trott were nominated for LG People’s Choice Awards.
The list of the players was nominated by an elite panel of cricket experts comprising Zaheer Abbas of Pakistan, Clive Lloyd, the former Captain of West Indies, Mike Gatting of England, Paul Adams of South Africa and Danny Morrison of New Zealand. The panel was lead by Clive Lloyd.
The cricket fans through out the world could vote for their stars, by logging to the website www.lgpeopleschoice.com. They would be able to vote till 11 AM GMT on August 25, 2011, as the voting lines would be closed.
Haroon Lorgat, the ICC Chief Executive said that, Sachin Tendulkar has won the award, in the first inaugural LG People’s Awards, which proved to be the hugely popular cricket award show and also displayed, how much for the fans meant, to vote for their cricketing stars.
He also said that, the LG People’s Choice Awards has now become a prestigious event, in the cricketing calendar and they are very delighted that, the fans would be able to vote again for their cricketing heroes and determine who should win the award in the year 2011.
