West Indies most senior batsmen was dropped form the third test in the 13 members list against India which is scheduled to be held form Wednesday, 6th July, 2011.
Kieran Powell has been replaced in the place of Ramnaresh Sarwan for the third Test against India beginning in Dominica on July 6. Apart from Sarwan, no one has been dropped for the third test against India. However, the Indian team is leading the 3 test match series with 1-0.
After a span of 18 months, Sarwan has been selected against the Pakistan and has struggled in getting runs. He managed to score just 54 runs in the toe test against Pakistan and continued his miserable form against India by scoring just 29 runs from tow tests.
Clyde Butts, the chairman of the selection panel has stated that, Sarwan is having a difficult time and it is best for him to make way and allow a player in better form to contribute to the team totals and also reported that, We have no doubt about Sarwan class performance as a batsman, he has proven himself countless times in the past and we are certain that he will return stronger in the near future.
The 21-year-old Kieran Powell hails from Nevis and has played two ODIs, one against Bangladesh and one against India at the 2009 Champions Trophy event in South Africa. The third test against India will be debut of his test career.
The 13-members squads for the third test against Indian are:
West Indies Test squad: Darren Sammy (captain), Adrian Barath, Carlton Baugh, Devendra Bishoo, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Fidel Edwards, Kirk Edwards, Kieran Powell, Ravi Rampaul, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons.
