The Indian squad has been fined by match referee Chris Broad for being three over’s short of the target against the West Indies at the end of the second Test in Barbados.
A side is fined 10 per cent of its match fees for every over it fails to bowl in the fixed time. The captain is fined double that amount.
For that reason, India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined 60 per cent of his match fee while his players were docked 30 per cent, as per ICC regulations.
The offence is dissimilar to Article 2.5.1 of the code of conduct, which relates to minor over-rate offences. The fine was accepted by India without dispute, so there was no need for a hearing.
India leads the series with 1-0 points going into the final Test in Roseau – Dominica, next week, the first to be played in the country.
Sammy, the West Indies captain, told his squads were satisfied with the draw, even though they had set out to triumph.
MS Dhoni had also been booked for slow over rate during the third Test over South Africa in Cape Town prior this year.
If a particular side is guilty of not maintaining the over-rate on three occasions in a 12-month period, the skipper would suffer an immediate suspension of one match in the same format of the game.
With the Test series in England threatening, Dhoni will have to be careful with the over-rate.
