The format and the schedule of Champions League T20 2011 (CLT20), has been announced in a media release.
The third edition of Champions League T20 2011 has been scheduled along with the format of the event. The event will start from September 23, 2011 to October 9, 2011. The CLT20 will be played in Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata, while the qualifying matches will be held at Hyderabad from September 19, 2011 to September 21, 2011.
The Champions League T20 tournament will have 10 teams, who will be competing to win the title. Seven teams have already been qualified for the tournament. To determine the remaining three teams, a six-team qualifying event will be conducted for the first time in the event.
The six teams will be divided into two pools, with three teams each and the top two teams will head for the group stage. For the third team, to qualify for the group stage, the next highest ranked team, which will be determined, based on the points and net run rate.
In the group stage, the 10 teams will be divided into two groups, with five teams each, which will play the round robin matches. The top two teams of each group will head for the semifinals. The group stage matches will be conducted at the venues of Eden gardens of Kolkata, M Chinnaswamy Stadium of Bangalore and MA Chidambaram Stadium of Chennai.
The first semifinal will be held at Bangalore on October 7, 2011 and the second semifinal and the final will be held at Chennai on October 8, 2011 and October 9, 2011 respectively.
The current champions of Champions League T20, Chennai Super Kings have been listed in Group A, along with Cape Cobras of South Africa, New South Wales Blue of Australia and Mumbai Indians of India. The top team of Pool B in qualifier will join the group as the fifth team.
The Group B comprises the teams Royal Challengers Bangalore of India, Warriors of South Africa and South Australian Redbacks of Australia. The top team and the next highest ranking team from Pool A of qualifier will join the Group B to compete at group stage.
The third edition of Champions League T20 2011 (CLT20) will start in Bangalore with the first match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Warriors of Group B at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
