Indian batsman, Suresh Raina has been fined with 25 percent of his match fee, as he showed dissent in the ongoing second test against West Indies in Barbados.
The Indian middle order batsman, Suresh Raina was fined 25% of his match fee, as he breached the Article 2.1.3 of the code of ICC, which will come under showing dissent at the decision of umpire through any action or verbal abuse.
After the end of the day one of the second test against West Indies, Raina appealed guilty and accepted the fine imposed on him by the match referee, Chris Broad, of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.
The offence happened in the 56th over of the Indian innings, when Raina was adjudged caught behind in the bowling of Devendra Bishoo by the umpire. Raina shook his head, indicating that, he did not hit the ball, which appeared to be an influencing attempt on the decision of the umpire. He looked at sky in a disgusting manner and swung his bat and shook his head again.
Chris Broad, the match referee said that, it was clear breach of the code, which was done by Raina, which he also accepted. There is a difference between expressing disappointment and showing dissent at a dismissal, but Raina exceeded the limits and his behavior was unacceptable in the particular situation.
All the Level 1 breaches levy a minimum penalty of official reprimand with the maximum penalty of 50 percent of match fee. The imposed fine was brought by Asad Rauf and Ian Gould, the on-field umpires, Gregory Brathwaite, the third umpire and Norman Malcolm, the fourth official.
