Legendary left-handed batsman Sanath Jayasuriya was recalled on Thursday to the Sri Lanka ODI and T20 squad for the England tour starting on June 25 with aT20 at Bristol.
Sanath Jayasuriya will make a welcome return to the Sri Lanka T20 and ODI’s as the national selectors chosen the former Sri Lanka captain to join the team for the series against England. The series also features five ODI’s against England and one ODI each against Scotland and Ireland.
Jayasuriya has been included in place of opener Upul Tharanga and has last played an ODI for Sri Lanka in Dec 2009 against India at Delhi. He has turns 42 on 30 June and is currently the oldest cricketer player in international cricket.
Thilina Kandambi has been vice-captain of the team while all rounder although Kumar Sangakkara acts as deputy to Tillakaratne Dilshan in the test series.
All-rounder Angelo Matthews has been named in the team subject to him passing the fitness test. Lasith Malinga, who has retired from test cricket last month, has retained his place in the ODI team while Nuwan Kulasekara has also retained his position.
From Sri Lanka’s World Cup squad, Rangana Herath, Chamara Silva and experienced Thilan Samaraweera have been left out for the England tour.
Sri Lanka will be playing five ODIs and one Twenty20 international on the England tour.
