Gary Kirsten is all set to become the South African cricket team’s new coach on Monday, with former teammate Allan Donald assisting him.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) would make a formal announcement on Monday ending two-month speculation as the officials interviewed several candidates from across the globe for the new coach position. Sources said.
Gary Kirsten (43-year-old) has played in 101 Tests and 185 ODI’S in a career spanning a decade.
Gary Kirsten told that, it would be a massive honour for him, after representing the national squad with distinction for a decade and he would love to coach the South African team.
Kirsten had a fantastic three seasons with the Indian squad guiding them to the World Cup victory and to the No 1 ranking in Test cricket was inclined to take over from Corrie van Zyl, who has returned to his position as head of the CSA High Performance Centre.
As far as CSA is concerned, there only consideration is whether Kirsten will be able to manage his family life with the demands of being a full-time national coach. Upcoming November, Kirsten will be awaiting the birth of his third child and that was the reason he was initially reluctant to coach South Africa.

It was seen that former Pakistan coach Richard Pybus is also running for the job, but Kirsten’s record as an international key player and his extremely successful spell with India, gives him the frame.
