As the security situations in Pakistan getting cruel every day, Sri Lanka Cricket has made it clear that it will not send the national squad to the discord torn country until and unless it gets safety clearance.
Pakistan’s chances of hosting the “Bilateral Series” received a harsh blow last night, when armed terrorists knocked at a military base in Karachi, which is very close to the National cricket stadium.
SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga was told that, they have received a request from Pakistan cricket board over the past three or four months, that they would like to host Sri Lanka team as scheduled in the FTP. Lankans told them, they need security clearance first before sending a team there again. Sources said.
However, during the island nation’s last tour of Pakistan in 2009 year, the Sri Lankan team bus was attacked by armed gun-men on its way to the Gadaffi stadium in Lahore.
The attack on the Lankan squad not only cut short the tour but, also resulted in the death of international cricket in Pakistan. All major cricket playing nations rejecting to visit the Pakistan, quoting security fears.
Pakistan Cricket Board, on its part stays behind hopeful about the tour and has assured its Sri Lankan counter part of advanced security for the visiting team during the bilateral series.
PCB – Nadeem Sarwar said yesterday that, they have sent them a fresh invite to play the series of three Tests, five one-day internationals and one Twenty20 match in Pakistan in October-November.
