The Pakistan Cricket Board has dropped Shahid Afridi as Pakistan captain for the two matches and replaces Misbah-ul-Haq for the forthcoming one-day internationals series against Ireland later this month.
Chairman of the board Ijaz Butt announced in a media conference in Islamabad that, senior batsman Misbah-ul-Haq would lead the side in the two ODI matches against Ireland on May 28 and 30, 2011 in Belfast.
The latest changes arrive after Shahid Afridi returned home from the Caribbean and oblique unhappiness with Coach Waqar Younis over matters of selection. The pair was never on fantastic terms, as Waqar had preferred Misbah as captain for the World Cup itself but, held together through the World Cup.
The differences arose between the pair during the course of the ODI series, which Pakistan ultimately won 3-2 series against the West Indies, Afridi unhappy at the amount of say Waqar wanted in the selection of the final XI. But, the PCB did not involve on the reason for his relegation.
Shahid Afridi was sent a show cause notice by the board and was due to meet the chairman over his comments as well as his relationship with Waqar Younis.
However, if see Afridi earlier matches in the last 34 ODI’s, he won 18 and lost 15 matches with a stretch included tough series against South Africa and England.
