Seems Sri Lankan’s coming off a World Cup set back early this month, making their efforts to come back as a full equipped team for the upcoming England tour starting from May 15 as they have announced former batsman, 40 year old Marvan Atapattu as the batting coach.
Marvan Atapattu got retired in 2007 ending his 17 year international cricket career starting from 1990. The selection seems positive on the right hand batsman as the player got retired following a spat from the selectors due to which he abdicated the links with the committee for so long.
Atapattu, starting his career in 1990 has scored 8,529 runs comprising 11 centuries and 59 half centuries during his 17 years one day international career. He is also known for 6 double hundreds in Test Cricket in which format he scored more than 5,000 runs throughout his 1990-2007 tenure.
However, Sri Lanka will attain a volte-face as they will be up for the tour with new coach and captain. Atapattau selected as batting coach, Dilshan as a new captain and Stuart Law as the new coach to make the tour a testing ground for entirely a new team.
With the best possible outcomes expected, Atapattu will start his coaching career for his home country against England.
