The veteran batsmen, Ross Taylor expects that New Zealand can make it to finals of ICC World Cup 2011. New Zealand will face co-hosts Sri Lanka on 29th March in first semi-final on Tuesday at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
The Kiwis has qualified six times to semis in ten World Cup tournaments, but Black Caps yet to make their finals debut in the ICC World Cup. New Zealand faced defeats against West Indies in 1975, England in 1979, Pakistan in 1992 and 1999 and Sri Lanka in 2007 all these defeats were in the semi-finals. Ross Taylor added that the present team has the ability to make it to the finals of World Cup.
Ross Taylor said they were proud to the history of making it to semi-finals for most times. New Zealand team has risen to its standards after they lost to Sri Lanka in group matches with a huge margin of 112 runs. New Zealand team is full of confidence after their last win against South Africa. Kiwis scored 221 runs and Proteas were bowled out for 172 runs, as New Zealand defeated them in a crunch game to reach semis.
The hard hitting middle order batsman feels that, their team will be having advantage as they already played against Sri Lanka. They were trying to rectify the mistakes that happened in the Sri Lanka match in pool stages and overcome the challenge. Ross Taylor has a brilliant knock of 131* against Pakistan and also got the starts in some of the innings but failed to capitalize.
Most of the teams under estimated them and hoping for an easy win. Taylor added that every under dog has its day to defeat any opponent on their own day.
