South Africa middle order batsmen, JP Duminy played rescue innings and gave the Proteas bowlers to show their dominance. South Africa is qualified to quarter finals after crashing Ireland with 131 runs win in the ICC World Cup Group B match at Eden Gardens on 15th March, 2011.
South Africa tops the Group with eight points in five matches and followed up India with seven points in five games. West Indies are at third place with six points in four games; Bangladesh with six points from five games and England is at fifth place with five points in five games.
Proteas innings were unsteadied by the Ireland tight bowling and fielding efforts at one point of the game, South Africa was struggling at 117 runs for loss of five wickets. JP Duminy played sensible knock at one end, but wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Colin Ingram and Johan Botha provided the support to Duminy needed. They put on two successive half century stands for sixth and seventh wicket which guided South Africa to reach 272 runs in their 50 overs. JP Duminy was felt short of one run to reach his ton.
Ireland need 273 runs to win the game and stay alive in the tournament, but Irish batsmen struggled against pace attack of Proteas. Ireland batsmen were unsettled in the crease as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Gary Wilson and Kevin O’Brien were the only batsmen to provide some solidity to the Irish innings by adding 41 runs for fifth wicket.
Morne Morkel was the star performer with the ball, he started the downfall of Ireland innings and he was only one to finish the things for South Africa. Morne Morkel and Robin Petersen bagged three wickets each, Jacques Kallis has taken two wickets and Johan Botha and JP Duminy chipped in with a wicket each.
