India’s most stylish middle order player, VVS Laxman is honoured with Padma Shri which is India’s fourth highest civilian tribute. The announcement has revealed a day before of Republic Day as it is a tradition.
VVS Laxman joined the elite panel of cricketers who awarded Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Bishan Bedi, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and MS Dhoni. Sachin Tendulkar was also awarded with Padma Vibhushan which is the second highest honor.
VVS Laxman has been serving the country for past fifteen years with his elegant wrist playing abilities. He has played several match winning knocks and match saving knocks this year. VVS Laxman have played 120 tests with an average of 47.32, 7903 runs with 16 centuries. Top score of 284 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This was most memorable innings where Laxman and Dravid rescued the Indian from follow on and went on win that test.
VVS Laxman in 2010 average 67.07 in 11 tests, was magical with his special fourth innings knock of winning and surviving the test match of India. Some of the fabulous innings were 143 against South Africa, 103* against Sri Lanka, 73 * against Australia, 91 against New Zealand and 96 against South Africa.
Laxman on one occasion in an interview said that government should recognize his performances, it hurts when you ignored and he feels that he deserves the Padma Shri. Laxman feels that he was ignored from the team and also in term of awards.
VVS Laxman was awarded with Padma Shri for his contribution to the team and the country. Laxman feels very happy at last he was presented with countries most prestigious Padma Shri award. Laxman said that biggest achievement is to represent the team for several years and next comes the reward.
