Usman Khawaja: Usman Khawaja has been taken as the backup of Rickey Pointing in the Australian Squad for the Boxing Day Test that will start at Melbourne on this Wednesday.
The New South Wales Blues batsman, Khawaja has been taken by the selectors of Australia in order to give his support to Rickey Pointing’s team. Rickey Pointing has got finger injury while trying to take catch of Jonathan Trott in the second slip on third day of the match at WACA grounds. He is addressed to take rest for the remaining sessions of the match.
Andrew Hilditch, the chairman of National Selection Panel was confident over Rickey Pointing re-entry. But, instead they had taken a standby player named Usman Khawaja to act as requisite. He was taken second time, where once he was taken in the place of Michael Clarke during his struggle with his back-pain to the first Test in Brisbane.
Currently, Usman is playing for the New South Wales team in Sydney against Queensland, and scored 78 runs in his second innings.
Australian coach, Justin Langer has full confidence of Rickey’s entry. Pointing has been out of form in this year of about 24 tests and having an average of 38.95 and contributing a total of 83 runs in six innings of the present series.
