The Rajasthan Royals, winners of the inaugural IPL and Kings XI Punjab franchises were banned for the next year IPL. The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced this news on Sunday.
BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said, ‘It was unanimously decided that the Franchise agreements with K.P.H. Dream Cricket Pvt. Ltd. and Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt. Ltd. be terminated forthwith based on the Legal opinions obtained by BCCI in the matters.’
BCCI had already issued show cause notice to the banned two franchises. This news was announced by BCCI’s Annual General Meeting in Mumbai on September 29. These two teams were banned for various irregularities during the period of their contract.
BCCI president Shashank Manohar had said, “There are several irregularities and breach of terms and conditions of the (IPL) franchise agreement. All the three errant franchises need to get their houses in order before the next player auctions are held in November”
The BCCI also issued the notice to the Kochi IPL team. The BCCI said, “It was further unanimously decided to issue a Notice to the Unincorporated Joint Venture holding the Kochi Franchise calling upon them to resolve all their disputes and form a Joint Venture Company which will hold the IPL Franchise rights.”
