In day 1, Australia won the toss and elected bat first. Australia scored 224 runs for the loss of five wickets in their first innings. Shane Watson scored 101 and stayed as a not out batsman. Man of the match, Zaheer Khan took three wickets in the first day. By the end of the day 1, Shane Watson and Tim Paine are on the crease.
In day 2, Australia was all out for 428 runs in their first innings at the third session of day 2. By the end of the day, India was scored 110 runs for loss of two wickets. Australia kipper, Tim Paine scored 92 runs. India blower Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh took two wickets each. Indian opener, Virender Sehwag scored 59 runs in 54 balls. Indian blowers, Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma took three wickets each. Zaheer Khan joined 250th Test wicket club with the Ben Hilfenhaus wicket. By the end of day 4, India scored 55 runs for the loss of four wickets. By the end of the day 4, Sachin Tendulkar and Ishant Sharma are on the crease.
In day 5, India chased 216 runs in 58.4 overs for the loss of nine wickets. VVS Laxman scored 73 runs and stayed as not out batsman. Australian bowler, Ben Hilfenhaus took four wickets followed by Doug Bollinger three wickets. Sachin Tendulkar passed 1000 Test runs in a calendar year for the sixth time in his career so far.
