India Fined for slow over-rate in Dambulla’s ODI

The Indian cricket team was fined on Sunday for maintaining a slow over-rate during their defeat to Sri Lanka in the final ODI of the tri-series in Dambulla.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was fined 40 percent of his match fee, even if all their players were docked 20 percent their match fees.

Alan Hurst of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees ruled India to be two overs short of its target at the end of the tri-series final last night, when time allowances were taken into consideration.

In compliance with the ICC rules for a minor over-rate offences players are fined ten per cent of their match fees for every over their side did not bowl in the allotted time, the captain fined double that amount.

The punishment was accepted by India without contest, so it was not necessary to hold a hearing, an ICC statement said.
